Misuse of license Claims & False Representation
This page describes common forms of license claim misuse, how to verify a claim using the official interface, and how to report suspected false representation to the Authority.
Overview
The Authority maintains a controlled internal database and provides a public verification interface to confirm license claims. Misuse of license claims may cause public confusion and can be used to facilitate deception. This page explains typical misuse patterns and the reporting process.
1) Common misuse patterns
Examples of potentially misleading or false license representations include (non-exhaustive):
Invented or altered numbers presented as “official license references”.
Edited PDFs/images using the Authority’s name, crest, seals, or formatting.
Claims that exceed the scope of the entry (e.g., “approved for everything” style claims).
Emails or messages pretending to be the Authority or an “official agent” collecting fees or data.
Websites claiming to host an “official NLA register” outside the Authority’s website.
Use of NLA name/branding to imply endorsement, partnership, or official affiliation.
2) What the Authority may do after receiving a report
Depending on the information provided, the Authority may:
- Confirm whether a license claim matches an entry in the internal database.
- Record the report for trend monitoring and risk intelligence.
- Issue clarifications or guidance to the reporting party, where appropriate.
- Engage with the license holder or relevant intermediaries where applicable.
- Take administrative steps relating to brand misuse and false representation concerns.
3) How to report suspected misuse
For best results, include clear, objective evidence. The standard workflow is:
Step 1 — Capture
EvidenceCapture screenshots, URLs, document images, email headers, and the license number/name being claimed.
Step 2 — Verify

Step 3 — Submit

5) Disclaimer

Frequently asked questions
What if the claim shows “Active” but I suspect the marketing is still misleading?
Verification confirms status only. If a license holder is claiming scope or endorsements that appear misleading, you may still submit a report with supporting evidence and the specific claim language.
What if a third party asks me to pay for “verification” or “confirmation”?
Treat it as suspicious. The Authority does not authorise third-party “official registers” or paid verification services. Use the official Verify License tool and contact the Authority via official channels.
Will the Authority tell me the outcome of my report?
The Authority may acknowledge receipt and may request additional information. Detailed outcomes may not be shared due to confidentiality and data protection requirements.
